Traditional Japanese houses delight as they’re swathed in snow and light
Japanese traditional wooden houses, “Gassho zukuri,” are lit up in the snow-covered village of Shirakawa in Gifu prefecture, central Japan, on Jan. 19. Gassho zukuri villages were listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1995. The village will be illuminated this year until Feb. 16. Picture: Jiji Press / AFP / Getty Images
